Step 2: Mix the Ingredients

Now, it is time for you to mix the ingredients. It completely depends on what product you are using for the descaling. The homemade solutions are different them the commercial solutions. So, keep in mind the whole process of mixing up otherwise the mixture will not work well.

When you plan to settle for citric acid, you have to add it with water according to the previously mentioned ratio. When you use white vinegar for the descaling, you have to take water and dilute the vinegar in it. For commercial products, you have to understand that different product will require different method of mixing the elements.

In this case, it is always better to follow the manufacturer rules to get the best out of the commercial product. While going through the steps, keep in mind that it is about the safety of your machine. And so, you have to be very careful about it.

Step 3: Run the Mixture

When you are ready with the mixtures of the ingredients, you have to start the descaling process. Firstly, take the whole cleaning solution and pour it inside the coffee reservoir. Here, you have to make sure that the whole coffee reservoir is full with the mixture. The mixture might require a bit of water here. Add it if needed. After pouring it, it will start running through the boiler.

And then, it will go out through the coffee machine. Go through the steam and wand too and repeat the same method you have done with the reservoir. This will cleanse the espresso machine and provide you amazing result. The work of the mixture here is to run through the machine. In the way, it will clean up the gunk along with the mineral bits and pieces that are inside the machine. If you do this process, there will be no clogged pipes or build up.

Step 4: Rinse it off

After you have been through the descaling process, you have to make sure that the espresso machine is properly cleaned. For this, you need to go through the same method you have done before but now, you have to use water instead of the mixture. Here, the intention is to flush out the vinegar, lime juice or commercial product that you have used and make the inside portion clean with water.

If you do not do this, there will be a taste or smell of the product that you have used in descaling. As a result, the coffee you will make next will taste bad! Run clear water to the reservoir and the other places where you used the descaling products to rinse off the machine.

Step 5: Smell it

To learn more about the inner part of the espresso machine, you have to smell it. Smelling it will tell you if it is still smelling like the descaling product or not.
